| Howl's Moving Castle is an amazing film by Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, a visual treat for everyone. It is the story of a young girl, Sophie, who believes herself too plain to ever find love. Before she knows it, however, she's been swept off her feet by the mysterious magic-user Howl, whose magical Moving Castle is famous throughout the land. Changed into a 90 year old woman by an old mage's curse, she must find a new life with Howl and the many magical creatures that surround him. It's an amazing journey, the kind which only Hayao Miyazaki could create for us. This is the standard Japanese release. This 2-disc DVD features original Japanese dialogue along with English and French dubbed tracks, and optional subtitles in English, French and Korean. Also includes documentary material and full storyboards of the film.

The long wait for one of Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki's most famous and best-ever works is over, with the release of Laputa Castle in the Sky on DVD. A superb film made in 1986, just as Mr. Miyazaki was beginning his climb to international fame as the leading anime creator in Japan, it tells the fascinating story of Pazu and Sheeta and their search for the fabled floating city of Laputa, the remnant of an ancient civilization.
A fantastic DVD release from Studio Ghibli and Buena Vista Japan, this includes both the original Japanese version and the English-dubbed, as well English subtitles, so you can enjoy the film any way you wish. It comes with many extras, too, such as the complete storyboard history of the film viewable with the multi angle button on your DVD controller, four different original movie trailers, an alternate opening and closing to the movie, and more

This is the menu for disc 1.Options are, on the left side, View film, Chapter, and on the right side, Sound options, and Subtitle options.
On the left side is the Tokuten (Extras) Disc menu. Options are, View movie (storyboard version), Film trailers, Alternate opening and closings, and a collage of the opening intermixed with storyboard artwork that is very cool.
Laputa is one of the most well-written and animated films to come out of Japan in the 1980s, and it left its mark on the face of the anime world in general. A beautifully-imaged fictional world that was ruled in ages past by the people of Laputa, a race possessing incredible technology. Centuries after their passing, the race is on to locate the hidden Floating Castle and use its technology once again.
You can enjoy the film either with English subtitles, or the full English version, whichever you prefer.
On the Extras disc, you can view the film in storyboard mode, a great way to get insight on the movie and the director.
Laputa is one of the most famous anime movies from Japan, and we're very happy that it's available on this excellent 2-DVD set, with a very high quality transfer and full Dolby sound. Get this great DVD today!

| Studio Ghibli completists will definitely be interested in this -- "Short Short", a complete collection of all the odds and ends (commercials, music videos) that Ghibli has created over the years, from 1992 to 2005. Included in this 42 minute collection are shorts directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Yoshifumi Kondou, Yoshiyuki Momose, Osamu Tanabe, Shinji Hashimoto, and Takeshi Inamura, and feature not only new characters, but familiar characters from Totoro, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, and more. The styles of the shorts vary as well, sometimes simple, sometimes rich, and sometimes experimental, these 42 minutes are fascinating animation from start to finish. Presented in chronological order and presented in full frame or letterbox where appropriate, we'll see commercials for Lawsons (a convenience store chain), their advertisement for the the Ghibli Museum, and the excellent House Curry commercials, which capture the feeling of Japan during the Showa era. Of particular interest to Ghibli fans are the music videos -- the very rare "On Your Mark" (aka "Castles in the Sky") video by Chage & Aska presented here on DVD for the first time (this video also has an English track and full English subtitles) directed by Miyazaki himself. Other music videos are the futuristic trio of stories by Yasutaka Nakada ("Portable Airport" "Space Station No.9" and "Floating City Planning") and the singalong by Meiko Haigou, "The 'Which? Which?" Song". A special bonus is the accompanying booklet that describes all the pieces along with storyboards and other information. Finally all the odds and ends of the Ghibli world are available on one convenient DVD. Region 2, 2.0 & 5.1ch Dolby (where applicable), full frame and letterbox where applicable.
