| Studio Ghibli completists will definitely be interested in this -- "Short Short", a complete collection of all the odds and ends (commercials, music videos) that Ghibli has created over the years, from 1992 to 2005. Included in this 42 minute collection are shorts directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Yoshifumi Kondou, Yoshiyuki Momose, Osamu Tanabe, Shinji Hashimoto, and Takeshi Inamura, and feature not only new characters, but familiar characters from Totoro, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, and more. The styles of the shorts vary as well, sometimes simple, sometimes rich, and sometimes experimental, these 42 minutes are fascinating animation from start to finish. Presented in chronological order and presented in full frame or letterbox where appropriate, we'll see commercials for Lawsons (a convenience store chain), their advertisement for the the Ghibli Museum, and the excellent House Curry commercials, which capture the feeling of Japan during the Showa era. Of particular interest to Ghibli fans are the music videos -- the very rare "On Your Mark" (aka "Castles in the Sky") video by Chage & Aska presented here on DVD for the first time (this video also has an English track and full English subtitles) directed by Miyazaki himself. Other music videos are the futuristic trio of stories by Yasutaka Nakada ("Portable Airport" "Space Station No.9" and "Floating City Planning") and the singalong by Meiko Haigou, "The 'Which? Which?" Song". A special bonus is the accompanying booklet that describes all the pieces along with storyboards and other information. Finally all the odds and ends of the Ghibli world are available on one convenient DVD. Region 2, 2.0 & 5.1ch Dolby (where applicable), full frame and letterbox where applicable.

A great new DVD release in the Ghibli ga Ippai (Ghibli Everywhere) collection, this is Whisper of the Heart (Japanese title "Mimi o sumaseba" also translated as "If you listen closely"). Directed by Yoshifumi Kondo and produced by Hayao Miyazaki, this tells the story of the Shizuku, an average 14 year old Japanese girl with a more than active imagination, and of the journey she makes from girlhood into something more, of first girlish love and a rite of passage. A pleasant story that's presented both subtitled in English on these two DVDs -- the only way you can enjoy this film in English! Other extras include all storyboards for the film, watchable in order with the film soundtrack, all film trailers, a feature on the artwork in Japanese, and more. A great Japanese animated film from Studio Ghibli!
This is the Main menu for the first disc. Options are View film, Chapter, Sound options and Subtitle options.
On the second disc, explore many options in the film. Options on this menu are Video extras, Chapter, Trailers from the other Ghibli releases, and News from Studio Ghibli.
This is the Video extras menu for the second disc. Options are View film (with storyboards), news of upcoming films by Mr. Miyazaki, the documentary on the dreamy artwork of background painter Naohisa Inoue, and more news on new works by Studio Ghibli.
Some of the most beautiful art and animation went into this feature film about young love and coming of age, with some of the best technical animation ever shown to us by the studio. The DVD is subtitled in English.
There are many extras on the disc, like a digitally-enhanced exploration of the beautiful backgrounds for the film, created by Naohisa Inoue, set to beautiful music.
As with the other Ghibli ga Ippai DVD releases, you can view all the storyboards from the film, complete with full movie soundtrack.

| Studio Ghibli has come into its own as one of the world's foremost animation houses. This latest DVD release tells the story of a young girl, Haru, who saves a cat prince from being hit by a truck. In return for saving his son's life, the king of cats changes Haru into a cat to marry his son. But everything is not as it would seem, a war rages between the cats, and Haru isn't so sure she's up to marrying the prince. Directed by Hiroyuki Morita and based loosely on the manga Baron - Neko No Danshaku by Aoi Hiragi, it serves as an unofficial sequel to Whisper of the Heart, including many of the same characters from the cat world. Softer in tone and pace than many of the other Ghibli titles such as Mononoke Hime or Porco Rosso, it is still a Ghibli film in heart and spirit. Captivating, funny, and a treat for audiences who enjoy storylines over violence and action. Filmed in wide-screen, 16:9 format, The Cat Returns has optional Mandarin, Cantonese, English and Japanese subtitles. Included with The Cat Returns is a hilarious look at childhood days of the main character who works at an animation studio with a suspiciously similar name. Called Gibri's: Episode 2, it is a powerhouse of interesting and imaginative animation. A 25-minutes short about first crushes, it's a sweet and funny addition to an already great DVD. Shot in widescreen format with optional English or Japanese subtitles. 100 minutes of great Ghibli animation accompanied by a second DVD with promotional TV sports, character boards, the making of, and great additions. An impressive 160 minutes on the second disc, making this a fantastic buy for all fans of Hayao Miyazaki!
