Peter's head

Peter says: There are currently 230,000 Japanese registered with the Friends System database, including 123,000 females. We've checked the company extensively and think this is an outstanding way for you to make some Japanese friends, whether it's to trade information about Japan, exchange language lessons or find someone for serious romance -- or we wouldn't have put the link on our site. One of the first Western reactions to the Japanese language (by a priest in the 16th century), was that it must have been created by the Devil to make people suffer. A more accurate description of Japanese is that many of the words in the language are "loaded" - that is, they have meanings that differ from the simple dictionary definition.

The term "loaded" is commonly used in reference to a question that is meant to trap or trick someone - i.e. "a loaded question." However, the primary nature of the Japanese language isn't to trick the listener, but more to the understanding that many words in the Japanese language have nuances that go far beyond literal translations, if foreigners are not aware of, can misunderstand and be misled. The use of the "key word" approach toward explaining the Japanese culture, not only is the most practical approach to learning about Japan, but is also the most effective way to teach others about the Japanese way. Concepts such as Tatemae (front or facade) and Honne (real intentions), the fundamental meaning of Gaman (patience and perseverance), and Yoroshiku are among many other words with hidden meanings that can help you understand the Japanese mindset. Written in both Japanese and English which is perfect for advanced students of the language. Great for fans of the visionary writing of Boye Lafayette De Mente.
