This is Arita ware, one of the first types of porcelain in Japan and highly respected around the world. Arita ware is made exclusively in Arita Town in Saga Prefecture, and began 400 years ago when Sanpei, a ceramist from Korea discovered a wealth of top quality porcelain in the area. Prized both in Japan and abroad, these dishes will be highly prized in your home too, perfect for use or display. This particlar ware is a large dragon yunomi (hot tea cup) with a traditional dragon theme. This is a hand-painted decoration in various blue paints whch is beautiful to look at, and shows off the high craftsmanship of the artist. This is also painted on the inside of the rim of the cup as well, matching the rectangular design on the bottom rim of the cup. This cup also is lightweight for its size but at the same time naturally insulated enough to allow you to handle hot tea comfortably. The artist's signature appears on the bottom of the cup. This is a yunomi that will instantly become a favorite tea cup in your collection. 4.25" high and lip diameter of 3.25" (11cm and 9cm respectively). A unique addition to your collection, this will be shipped in a box and carefully prepared by our staff for you.
